PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy can be considered to be a way of self-healing, simply because it uses the patient’s own stem cells to heal their body and works on the principles of the body’s own natural healing capabilities.
Many of our patients of PRP in Aventura found PRP to be a great alternative to invasive surgery. One of the reasons is that the side effects of PRP injections are very limited as it is the patient’s own blood that is utilised. In most of the cases they show no negative reaction to it because the body recognises it as their own. The risks associated with PRP are also minimal; an increased pain at the injection site is sometimes unavoidable, but the incidence of any other post-injection-related problems such as infection, tissue damage, nerve injuries, appear to be no different from that associated with cortisone injections.
So far so good! So what does the PRP Aventura treatment looks like?
The first step in performing PRP therapy it is always to obtain a sample of the patient’s blood. As part of the preparation, one to a few tubes of the patient’s own blood must be collected. This always takes place by using a strict aseptic technique. The blood, after being centrifuged, has a tendency to separate the platelets (platelets are the major clotting tool in your blood but they are also rich in proteins called growth factors) which we will then inject into the patient’s own abnormal tissue. As a result the platelets release growth factors that recruit and increase the proliferation of reparative cells. In other words, platelet rich plasma is the body’s natural way to heal injuries. Platelet rich plasma (PRP in Aventura) is taken from the patient’s own blood, so it literally uses the body’s own cells to promote its own healing process. The body is able to repair itself more quickly simply by increasing the number of platelets in the area of injury. The healing process with begin faster and to a better degree - than if left untreated.
